Introduction

Module 1: Hazmat Basic Requirements and Communication

This module sets the stage for understanding the rules and regulations governing hazardous materials transportation. Students will learn foundational hazardous materials competencies and applicable DOT HMR and FMCSR regulatory requirements, including the hazardous materials table, proper marking, labeling, and placarding of cargo, and the preparation and importance of shipping papers. This module also explains how to identify appropriate reporting channels during hazardous materials emergencies.

Module 2: Safe Transportation Practices

Students will learn regulations related to tunnels and railroad crossings, proper loading and unloading techniques, cargo segregation and securement, and requirements for transporting hazardous materials alongside foodstuffs. Specialized considerations for bulk packages, including cargo tanks and portable tanks, are also covered.
